Cultural Contact, 1492-1969

The items included in Section I address many aspects of culture contact, including:

Exploration; Exchange of gifts; Trade, both in goods and people; Sexual relations; Spread of disease; Conflict on first contacts and subsequent independence movements; Colonial government and administration; Transfer of plants and animals; Missionary movements; Medical Missions; Education; Travel and Tourism.

A whole variety of indigenous cultures are related including material on: Maori; Aborigine; Inuit; Native American; Africa tribes, including Masai, Zulu, Kaffir and Bantu; Polynesian Islanders; Hindu and Muslim India; Islamic culture of the Great Mughals and the Middle East.
